Abstract
PURPOSE:To facilitate position adjustment and reduce the transmission loss by a method wherein a plurality of semiconductor lasers which have different oscillating wavelength each other and an optical multiplexing circuit which is made of glass and combines output beams of the lasers into one wavepath are provided on the same Si substrate along grooves. CONSTITUTION:Three InGaAs semiconductor lasers 11 which have different oscillating wavelength each other are formed on an Si substrate which operates as a heatsink and are positioned by grooves 18 and welded. The laser beams emitted from the semiconductor lasers 11 are condensed by a cylindrical lens 12 which is made from a glass rod and is positioned by a groove 13. Then the condensed beams are multiplexed by an optical multiplexing circuit 14 and are transmitted into an optical fiber 16 which is a transmission line. The optical fiber 16 is positioned by a V-shape groove 15. With above configuration, the position is adjusted easily and, as a passive circuit is made of glass, transmission loss is minimal and high degree of freedom of the design can be obtained.
