Abstract

PURPOSE:To display characters of a variety of countries without increasing memory capacity. CONSTITUTION:In a character generator (CG)100, only characters, numbers and symbol fonts common to all countries are stored, and character information which is not stored in the CG100 is monitored by a memory 103 and a comparator 104; when a character signal which is not in the CG100 is detected, a flip-flop 107 is set and an interruption signal INT is sent out to interrupt an MPU44. A microprocessing unit (MPU)44 reads the data of a changeover switch 98 through a bus driver 99 previously to know the destination country, so the character signal which have generated the INT is known through a data bus. On the basis of it, address information in an auxiliary CG106 is generated to read the character font of the destination country out of the auxiliary CG106 through an address bus AB, thereby sending the character font to a latch circuit 96 through the data bus DB by the intervention of a multiplexer 97.
