PURPOSE:To obtain a high discharge processing efficiency always stabilized despite change of the configuration and material of the electrode or work by performing discharge processing under control of specified control factors so that the effective discharge rate becomes the optimum value of the maximum control factor. CONSTITUTION:This arrangement is composed of pulsed power source 1, electrode 2, work to be processed 3, effective discharge rate and sustained abnormal arc discharge sensing circuit 4. A search clock signal obtained from a search sequence circuit 23 is placed into the negative side of a reversible counter 14. Then the maximum value of effective discharge rate is finally placed in a maximum value memory 8 and the optimum value for the voltage setting value is entered in a shift register 12, and the search completion signal is sent to the load input of the reversible counter 14 from a one-shot multivibrator 24, and then the optimum value is entered in the counter 14 to perform the processing thereafter at the optimum value. Thus always stable high discharge processing efficiency is obtained despite change of the configuration and properties of the electrode used or work to be processed.
