Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a packing material for trickling filters which are difficult to clog by constituting the trickling filter for sewage treatment by packing gravel-like crushed blast furnace slag.
CONSTITUTION: The blast furnace slag obtained by cooling slowly the molten slag byproduced from a blast furnace in iron making is crushed. Gravel-like materials 1 of ≥5mm diameters made by this are packed to form a trickling filter. This filter bed is distributed uniformly with microbe membranes and has high adhesive power; therefore, short circuiting with microbes is difficult to occur. Hence, the life of the packing material is extended and the times for exchanging the same are decreased.
