CONSTITUTION:When reproducing a tape which has formed a magnetic material layer 2 such as Co/Cr alloy, etc. having a strong magnetic anisotropy in the vertical direction, and a high magnetically permeable material layer 4, on a base film 5, a magnetic resistance effect MR element 9 is made to a main magnetic pole by forming so that the width tMR of a gap formed on the substrate surface by using, for instance, Ni/Fe alloy, etc. as a thin film becomes about 0.02-0.1mu.
