Abstract

PURPOSE:To mix and dissolve a nematic liquid crystal in a multicolor dye in a short time efficiently, by giving external ultrasonic wave vibrations to a container containing the nematic liquid crystal and the multicolor dye while heating the container at a specific temperature without adversely affecting both components. CONSTITUTION:A nematic liquid crystal 10 containing a dye is introduced into a container 7 immersed in a medium liquid 5, e.g. water, and the temperature of the medium liquid 5 is increased by a heater 6 to a temperature several degrees higher than the N-1 point of the nematic liquid crystal 10, the so-called point at which the nematic liquid crystal 10 changes from the nematic phase to the isotropic phase. The liquid crystal 10 containing the dye in the container 7 is heated to the same temperature, and a vibrator 4 is vibrated at a high frequency to generate ultrasonic waves from a vibrating bottom plate 3 by the high frequency vibration. The ultrasonic wave vibrations are given to the nematic liquid crystal 10 containing the dye through the medium liquid 5 to mix the nematic liquid crystal 10 with the dye by the random flow of the nematic liquid crystal 10 with a slight isotropic phase and stirring of the liquid crystal 10 containing the dye with the ultrasonic wave vibrations.
