Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to prevent a refrigerant from being overheated by simple means in the operation of a heat pump type heating that uses hot water as its heat source, by allowing the circulating hot water to bypass a water-refrigerant heat exchanger when the circulating hot water becomes too hot.
CONSTITUTION: The water-refrigerant heat exchanger of a refrigeration cycle acts as an evaporator during heating operation when it is cold. The hot water from a hot water reservoir 1 which has been heated by solar heat or the like is heated by a water heater 7, and is passed via a three-way valve 9 to the heat exchanger 4 and a bypass pipe 13. By detecting the hot water temperature, the three-way valve 9 can alter the passages of the hot water in such a manner that when the temperature of the hot water is low, the bypass pipe 13 is closed, and when the temperature of the hot water is high, the passage to the heat exchnger 4 is almost closed with its flow pasage left slightly opened. Thus, when the temperature of the hot water is high, as a small amount of hot water can flow through the heat exchanger 4, the freezing can be prevented.
