Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform compensation of sensitivity, by providing a circuit storing a dark and bright level signals at each protodetector and compensating a photoelectric output signal based on the stored signal. CONSTITUTION:A solid-state image pickup element 11 has a lot of photodetection sections 12, converts received light into an electric signal and applies the signal to an operation circuit 14 via a driving circuit 13. To the circuit 14, two storage circuits 15 and 16 storing data corresponding to the number of the sections 12 are connected. When no light is made incident to the element 11, a photoelectric output signal from the sections 12 is stored as a dark level signal of the storage circuit 15 and when a light of high level is uniformly made incident to the element 11 with a prescribed intensity, the photoelectric output signal from the sections 12 is stored as a bright level signal. The circuit 14 uses both dark and bright signals and compensates the output from each photodetection section for output.
