Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a printer which permits the switching of a high-density low speed printing and a low density high speed printing by arranging a print head with dot generating elements arrayed parallel in several rows to take two positions that is a normal position and an inclined position. CONSTITUTION:In the pin array of a print head 1, two of parallel pin rows A and B cross at the right angle to the main scanning direction X so that corresponding pins of the pin rows A and B overlap each other during the scanning. While a solenoid 7 is not charged, a plunger is pushed to the left with a spring 16 making the bottom of a carriage mounting base 2 parallel with the top surface of a carriage 4. When the solenoid 7 is charged, the plunger is put back to the right and a link 10 is pushed up the carriage mounting base 2 to tilt the print head 1 by an angle theta. Thus, pins B2-B12 are so positioned to form dots centered on dots which pins A1-A12 record during the scanning.
