Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove volatile organic components from water with extremely high efficiency at a low cost, by treating the water, which contains the volatile organic components such as odorous substance and organic substance, with supersonic waves having an oscillation frequency of 10kHz or more.
CONSTITUTION: A supersonic piezoelectric transducer is dipped in a water solution containing volatile oeganic components, e.g. organic substance, represented by odorous substance and trihalomethane, which scents drinking water with offensive smell or taste, and various kinds of low-boiling point organic solvents used in the chemical industry or the like. An oscillation frequency of 10kHz or more is applied to the supersonic piezoelectric transducer to supersonically treat the water. In this case, when the supersonic treatment is done under a bubbling condition, its effect is further enhanced. In order to generate bubbles, may be adopted the diffuser system or the like in which a porous plate provided with an air inlet opening at its lower part is located on the water bottom.
