Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a novel high-molecular polyacrylamide derivative soluble in water and suitable as an emulsifier, dispersing agent, coagulant, adhesive material, etc., and composed of a specific recurring unit having saccharide residue and amide bond in the molecule.
CONSTITUTION: The objective polyacrylamide derivative of formula III (n is 60W600) can be prepared by (1) reacting an active acrylic acid derivative of formulaI(R is H or methyl; X is Cl, acryloxy or methacryloxy) with an amino sugar of formula II in a solvent (e.g. methyl alcohol, DMF, etc.) at 0W30°C, and (2) heating the resultant acrylamide derivative monomer in a solvent (water or amide-type polar solvent) in the presence of a polymerization initiator (water- soluble initiator or azo-type initiator) at 50W100°C.
