Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a centrifugal separator which does not narrow the flow passages to light liquid by heavy liquid in liquid supply pipes by disposing a suction vane at the liquid surfaces of both heavy and light liquids supplied from respective supply pipes assuming the two layers formed by both liquids, and locating the bottom end of a guide cylinder at the interface.
CONSTITUTION: While light liquid 32 and heavy liquid 31 are mixed and agitated by a suction vane 26, the liquids are flowed upward in a guide cylinder 14, and are flowed in to the separating chamber 12a of a rotating cylinder 12. During this time, the liquids are extracted. In the chamber 12a, both liquids are separated by gathering the heavy liquid 31 near the inside circumferential surface of the cylinder 12 and the light liquid 32 near the center, respectively. Next, the heavy liquid 31 is fed through a weir 18 into a receiver 29, and is discharged through a discharge pipe 29. The light liquid 32 is fed through a weir 20 to a receiver 30, and is flowed out through a discharge pipe 30. In the case of flowing both liquids in countercurrent by using centrifugal extractors in multiple stages as in extraction stages in the reprocessing of nuclear fuel, the discharge pipe 29a for the heavy liquid 31 is connected to the heavy liquid supply pipe 27 of the centrifugal extractor in the fore stage and the discharge pipe 30a of the light liquid 32 to the light liquid supply pipe 28 of the centrifugal extractor of the post stage.
