PURPOSE: The titled raw pitch of low softening temp. capable of easily forming mesophase in the preparation of precursor pitch, which is prepd. by mixing a heavy oil produced as a byproduct in the fluid catalytic cracking of a petroleum with a nucleus-hydrogenated arom. hydrocarbon and thermally treating the resulting mixt. under specified conditions.
CONSTITUTION: 100vol% heavy oil of b.p. ≥200°C produced as a byproduct in the preparation of a light oil such as gasoline by the fluid catalytic cracking of a petroleum such as kerosene at about 450W500°C is mixed with 10W200vol% nucleus-hydrogenated product from a di- or tricyclic arom. hydrocarbon such as tetralin or dihydroanthracene, and the obtd. mixt. is thermally treated at 370W 480°C, under pressure of 2W50kg/cm2 for 15minW20hr, to obtain raw pitch for carbon fiber.
