Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the integrated air and land transportation of cargon by combining the land transporation operations using containers fitted with pallets for handling cargo and the air transport and airport cargo handling operations using only containers. CONSTITUTION:A container 1 fitted with a pallet 2 is transpoted by truck to the airport, where the pallet 2 is detached from the container 1. Thereafter the container 1 is moved along on a conveyor 3 for inspection. Then the container 1 is lifted up to the height of a door of an aircraft A and loaded into the aircraft A through said door. After having been transported by air, the container 1 passes through the various operations such as cargo handling and ground transport at the destination airport and is fitted with a pallet 2 for handling and delivered to the destination unloading place. The use of such detachable pallets makes it possible to employ a door-to-door system of integrated air and land transportation of cargo.
