Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the durability deterioration of a sensor by a method wherein the output of the oxygen sensor is always examined and high-tension voltage is applid to a heater contained in the oxygen sensor when the output of the sensor becomes lower than the predetermined value and carbon is prevented from adhering to the sensor of the sensor element. CONSTITUTION:The output of a sensor 10 and a reference voltage VR are compared by a comparator 26. An output at 'H' level is sent out when the output of the sensor becomes lower than the reference voltage VR. The conformity of the output of the comparator 26 with a high temperature detection signal Q2 (signal at 'H' level) sent from a decision circuit 19 is obtained from an AND gate 27. A lead-in current control circuit 25 is controlled by the output of the AND gate 27 so that the current for the sensor 10 is boosted. Thus carbon is prevented from adhering to the sensor, which also prevents the durability deterioration of the sensor.
