Abstract

PURPOSE: A high-molecular-weight material is treated with thiocyanic acid, or with a thiocyanate salt and an acid or with thiourea and an acid to produce the titled electrically conductive polymer that is suitably used for recording discs, because of its high heat stability, dispersibility, flame retardancy, lubricity, maldability and processability.
CONSTITUTION: A high-molecular-weight material such as polyvinyl chloride is throughly kneaded with thiocyanic aid, or a thiocyanate salt such as ammonium thiocyanate and an acid such as orthophosphoric acid or with thiourea and an acid to give a homogeneous mixture. Then, the reaction is effected in a sealed reactor such as a pressure glass reactor or under opened conditions at -20W+20°C to produce the objective polymer of light yellowish orange. After the reaction, the thiocyanic acid remaining in the material is treated with a cationic molecule containing a quaternary nitrogen or an anionic molecule bearing carboxyl group to stabilize the polymer.
