Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a xylene mixture having a high p-xylene attainment, rate of equilibruim, by bringing isomeric mixture of xylene contatining at least one in a thermodynamic equilibrium concentration or less into contact with a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite catalyst prepared by using a cationic source.
CONSTITUTION: A raw material mixture cntaining xylene isomers in which at least one, particularly p-xylene, thereof is in a thermodynamic concentration or less is brought into contact with a catalyst containing crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having the composition, expressed by the formula{M is n-valent one or more cations[hydrogen ions or alkali(earth) metallic ions, etc.]; X is 10 or more, preferably 10W1,000}, and having the X-ray lattice distance expressed by the values shown in the table in the vapor phase to isomerize the xylene. The catalytic activity life is long, and the high p-xylene attainment rate of equilibrium maintained under ordinary pressure for several days even without using a carrier gas. If the attainment rate of equilibrium is reduced, the catalytic activity is easily recovered by increasing the reaction temperature.
