Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce hexavalent chromium into trivalent Cr in a short time, by bringing waste oil shale powder or a material obtained treating it with an acid into contact with a waste liquor containing hexavalent Cr.
CONSTITUTION: Waste oil shale is added to industrial waste water containing harmful hexavalent Cr, which is converted into harmless trivalent Cr. The waste oil shale to be used is obtained by adjusting the residue prepared by extracting synthetic petroleum from oil shale into particle sizes of -100W+200mesh or treating the waste oil shale with an acid of 2NHCl solution at 50°C for 8hr, followed by washing with water and drying at 100°C. Especially the latter, the waste oil shale treated with an acid can promote the reduction in a shorter time, reduce hexavalent Cr into trivalent Cr in high reduction ratio.
