Abstract

PURPOSE:To record short wave of <=1mu and also to obtain a sufficient high output, by using ferromagnetic needle-like alloy powder having specific mean long axial diameter and needle-like ratio. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic recording medium is obtained by applying a magnetic coating material containing ferromagnetic needle-like alloy powder which contains Fe, Fe-Co, Fe-Co-Ni, etc. or an element of a small quantity added to them, and has coercive force of about 700-2,000 oersted, mean long axial diameter (a) of lambda/2.28 (where lambda denotes center recording wavelength and <=1mu), and needle-like ratio of 10, on the base film.
