PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium which excels in both the durability and the travelling stability, by securing the content of a specified denatured organic silicone compound into a magnetic layer to improve both the lubricity and wear resistance. CONSTITUTION:A denatured organic silicone compound denatured by the alkyl fluoride fatty acid (such as C4F9C18H36COOH) and shown by a formula (R1, R2: hydrocarbon group of C7-21; m: 1-11; n: 0-1,000) is put into a magnetic layer in a ratio of about 0.1-10wt% to the magnetic powder. In other words, a magnetic coating material obtained by kneading the above-mentioned denatured organic silicone compound, the magnetic powder, a binder and an organic solvent is coated and dried on a substrate of polyester or the like to form a magnetic layer. This magnetic layer is used for a magnetic recording medium.
