Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as an intermediate raw material in organic synthetic chemistry, economically, in an industrial scale, without troubles of apparatus corrosion nor necessitating high temperature and pressure, by reacting glyoxal with an alkylamine in the presence of H and a hydrogenation catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: Glyoxal, an alkylamine (primary amine having 1W6C alkyl), a solvent such as water, and a hydrogenation catalyst (e.g. a platinum-group catalyst) are charged in an autoclave, the autoclave is sealed and substituted sufficiently with hydrogen, and the reactants are subjected to the catalytic amination reaction under normal or positive pressure. After the completion of the reaction, the content is cooled, the catalyst is separated, and the product is distilled under normal or reduced pressure to obtain the titled compound. The reaction temperature is pref. as low as possible, i.e. between normal temp. and 100°C. The reaction temperature of >100°C is undesirable because the polycondensation of the reaction products takes place. The hydrogen pressure is pref. 10W200kg/cm2.
