Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a secondary battery which doesn't develop any liquid leakage and has high charge-and-discharge efficiency as well as long life by using compounds making a reversible compound with lithium as a positive and a negative active material, and using an electrolyte prepared by dissolving a lithium salt in an organic solvent. CONSTITUTION:As a negative active material 2, titanium dioxide or niobium pentaoxide in a charged state forms a reversible compound with lithium. As a positive active material 1, an oxide, an acid anhydride or a sulfide such as manganese dioxide which can form an insoluble compound by reacting with an alkali metal at a higher potential than that at which the negative active material 2 forms a reversible compound with lithium. Metal lithium is made to directly touch the surface of the negative active material 2. A separator 4 made of a glass fiber mat is impregnated with an organic electrolyte, which is prepared by dissolving lithium perchlorate in a mixture liquid of propylene carbonate and 1,2-dimethoxyethane.
