Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a high Mn nonmagnetic steel with superior strength, yield strength and oxidation resistance at high temp. by combinedly adding B and V to a high Mn steel and combinedly adding Cr, Ni and V.
CONSTITUTION: This steel consists of, by wt., 0.4W1.5% C, ≤3% Si, 14W35% Mn, 3W18% Cr, 0.15W3% Ni, 0.1W2% V, 0.001W0.1% B and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities or further contains one or more among ≤7% Al, ≤2% Ti, ≤2% Nb, ≤2% Zr, ≤0.4% N and ≤0.1% Ca. This steel can be used at a high temp. such as about 700°C. V added in combination with Cr and Ni improves remarkably the oxidation resistance at high temp., and V added in combination with B improves remarkably the yield strength at room temp. and high temp. by the solubilizing and precipitating effects. The lower limit or more of V is required, yet more than the upper limit of V increases the crack sensitiity of the ingot. B precipitates at grain boundaries and shows said effect in combination with V. The lower limit or more of B is required, yet more than the upper limit of B deteriorates the weldability.
