Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove lactam from an aqueous solution of lactam in high rejection, and to reuse the separated pure water as industrial water, by adding a slight amount of a reducing agent to the aqueous solution, and concentrating the solution with a specific composite reverse osmosis membrane.
CONSTITUTION: A lactam-containing aqueous solution is concentrated with a reverse osmosis membrane. The aqueous solution is added with about 10W 100ppm of a reducing agent, and brought into contact under pressure with a reverse osmosis membrane consisting of (A) a semipermeable barrier layer having a thickness of about 0.01W0.1μ and composed of a crosslinked polymer containing a compound having isocyanurate structure of formula (R1 is glycidyl, etc.: R2 is H, 2W5C alkyl or R1) as a main component (the isocyanurate structure in the polymer is bonded through -O- and -COO- bonds) and (B) a porous substrate membrane supporting the semipermeable layer A. The rejection of lactam is as high as ≥about 95%.
