Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a catalyst composed of a hydrogen-type crystalline aluminosilicate having a specific range of the silica/alumina molar ratio, and capable of oligomerizing selectively and exclusively isobutene without isomerizing 1-butene.
CONSTITUTION: The catalyst for the oligomerization of isobutene is composed of a hydrogen-type crystalline aluminosilicate having a molar ratio of silica to alumina (SiO2/Al2O3) of 30W500 (esp. pref. the hydrogen-type crystalline aluminosilicate contacted with hydrocarbons). The zeolite having mordenite-structure is esp. pref. as the natural or synthetic crystalline aluminosilicate. Isobutene is pref. the one existing in a hydrocarbon mixture containing 1-butene.
