Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a cell which has a superior shelfing characteristics and in which a high efficiency discharge is permitted, by using as a positive electrode active substance, a heterocyclic compound containing a nitrogen or sulfur atom, heterocylcic compound containing at least two nitrogen atoms, and charge-transfer complex containing iodine. CONSTITUTION:Light metal such lithium, sodium, aluminium, or magnesium is used for a negative electrode 2, and an iodine charge-transfer complex is used for a positive electrode 1. As the charge-transfer complex, may be used a substance consisting of a heterocyclic compound containing nitrogen and/or sulfur, for example, acridine, phenadine, melamine, etc., and a saturated heterocyclic compound which contains at least two nitrogen atoms in one molecule, for example, diaziline, pyrazolidine, imidazolidine, etc., and iodine. Thus, a positive electrode having low iodine vapour pressure and good conductivity can be obtained, and so, a cell which has superior shelfing characteristics and in which a high efficiency discharge is permitted can be obtained.
