Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an adsorbent which efficiently recovers the oil components included in a water system by enclosing reacting compounds between layers by acid- treating graphite, and heating the same to above 200°C, thereby expanding the same between the layers to several tens to several hundred times the original shape.
CONSTITUTION: Acid-treated graphite 1 is put into an acid-treated graphite storage tank 11, and following to this, a fluid heating zone 12 is formed via a valve 15. The acid-treated graphite 1 is supplied to this heating zone 12 by the valve 15 intermittently at a fixed rate, and is heated to above 200°C by a torch or a hot wind jacket or the like, whereby the acid-treated graphite 1 is allowed to make interlayer expansion, and be converted to thermally expanded graphite 2. This is led into a spraying pipe 13, and the thermally expanded graphite 2 is released into sea forcefully by compressed air. The graphite 2 released under the sea surface adsorbs oil, and the adsorption-treated parts 3 thereof form treated flocculated lumps 4 which are easily recoverable. Thus graphite 2 heated to the high temp. is cooled to prevent firing of the oil 6 floating on the sea surface 5.
