Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a carrier for ctalysts of high mechanical strength and carrier carrying capacity by constituting the carrier for catalysts with an inorg. core material, a binder coupled to this in the surface and a porous high polymer coating layer.
CONSTITUTION: An inorg. material such as alundum, glass, mullite or silica which is molded to honeycomb, Raschig ring, a sphercial shape or a sheet plate shape is used for the core material of the carrier for catalysts. This is coupled with a binder consisting of a compound expressed by the general formula, R-Si-X3 (X is halogen, alkoxy, etc., and R denotes vinyl group or substituted vinyl carbonyl oxyalkyl groups) in the core material surface. Further, a porous high polymer coating which is obtd. by polymn. of the polymerizable functional groups of the above-mentioned binder, and a monofunctional polymer such as methylacrylate and a crosslinking agent such as divinyl pyridine, or divinyl toluene and which is robust and has hydrophilic nature is coated, whereby the carrier for catalysts of a large catalyst carrying specific area is produced.
