Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a ball joint of small starting torque variation by forming a gap between the spherical portion of a ball stud and a bearing in which the ball stud is inserted and deformed by pressure fitting.
CONSTITUTION: After inserting a ball stud 1 into a bearing 3 and covering with a cap 4, the bearing 3 is caulked and fixed by pressing. In this case, it is possible to form a space portion 9 between the inside surface of the bearing 3 and the spherical portion of the ball stud 1 and fix the bearing 3 in a case 5, by setting the outer diameter and length of the bearing 3, to D-ΔD, L+ΔL respectively in comparison with the bore D and the length L of the cylindrical portion 8 of the case, and the inner diameter of cylindrical portion of the bearing 3 to d+Δd in comparison with the diameter d of the spherical portion of the ball stud 1.
