Abstract

PURPOSE: To control the fusion loss of refractories near a tuyere and enhance the reaction efficiency of a blown fluid and molten metal by specifying the ratio of the circumferential length of a section of the tuyere to that of its equivalent circle.
CONSTITUTION: A metal refining tuyrer is formed so as to adjust the ratio of the inner circumferential length of a section of the tuyere to that of a circle having an area equal to the inner cross-sectional area of the tuyere to ≥1.07. In case of a tuyere with double-tubed structure the ratio of the inner circumferential length of the outer tube to that of a circle having an area equal to the inner cross-sectional area of the outer tube including the inner tube is adjusted to ≥1.07. This tuyere can be applied generally to metal refining furnaces for blowing a necessary fluid. This tuyere form produces remarkable effects on the elongation of the furnace life, the enhancement of refining or agitating efficiency, the enhancement of additive yield, the reduction of the amount of gas used, etc.
