Abstract

PURPOSE: To couple a torque converter directly and improve the effect of engine brake by a method wherein the operation of a shift lever, an opening of a throttle valve and the speed of a car are detected when working the engine brake by means of shift-down.
CONSTITUTION: On shifting-down, an output signal C1 is at level "1" when an input signal T1 from a circuit 6 for detecting the full close of the throttle valve are at level "1" and the speed of a car from a car speed detecting means 1 satisfies the conditions of determined value set at a comparator 8. An output signal C2 is at level "1" because the input signal T1 from the circuit 6 is at level "1" and the torque converter is directly coupled regarding the speed of the car. Since C1 and C2 are inputted to an AND circuit 10, and input signal A1 to a converter directly- coupling signal generating circuit 11 is at "1" level, the converter directly-coupling signal is put out to an automatic transmission gear 5, and the effective effect of engine brake is obtained.
