Abstract

PURPOSE:To heighten grinding efficiency, by enabling a flat grindstone to tilt as to a cutting direction. CONSTITUTION:A flat grindstone 5 is set so that its side surface is inclined by an appropriate angle alpha from an attitude parallel with an inside surface 2 to be ground. The grindstone 5 is swung so that its side surface is inclined by an appropriate angle theta from an attitude parallel with a grinding direction. The peripheral surface of the grindstone 5 is shaped as an ellipse whose radius r' of curvature is equal to that (r) of a trough 2. The grindstone 5 is moved in the longitudinal direction of the trough 2 while the grindstone 5 is located in pressure contact with the trough 2 of the inside surface 1 of a mold and rotated, thereby grinding the trough 2. When the radius of curvature of the peripheral surface of the grindstone 5 has become equal to that of the trough 2, the grindstone 5 is set up perpendicularly to the trough 2 to grind it further. After the top of the curved portion of the grindstone 5 is worn out and flattened, grinding is effected again. The grinding efficiency is thus heightened.
