Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a copolymer having high moldability and dimensional accuracy and excellent abrasion resistance, chemical resistance and heat resistance, and useful as a molding material, by bonding a polyamide component to a copolymer chain component composed of styrene, an unsaturated carboxylic acid anhydride and its ester.
CONSTITUTION: A copolymer composed of a styrene copolymer chain segment and a polyamide chain segment chemically bonded to the above styrene segment, is prepared by reacting (A) a styrene copolymer having a molecular weight of 10,000W 300,000, pref. 50,000W150,000 and composed of (a) 40W95mol% of a styrene derivative, (b) 2W30mol%, pref. 5W20mol% of an α,β-carboxylic acid anhydride and (c) 2W58mol% of an α,β-carboxylic acid ester, as constituent units, with (B) a polyamide having a molecular weight of 5,000W50,000, under melting and kneading. The styrene copolymer is esp. pref. a styrene-maleic anhydride-methyl methacrylate copolymer in view of the high rigidity and the mold flow of the resulting copolymer.
