Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare vitamine B12, by cultivating a microoraganism capable of producing vitamin B12 separated from the sea or substances related to the sea in a culture medium containing common salt.
CONSTITUTION: One or two or more types of microorganisms, which are separated from seawater, coastal soil or marine products from the Inland Sea of Japan, belong to the genus Micrococcus, Arthrobacter or paracoccus, and have the ability to produce vitamin B12, e.g. Paracoccus sp. 12-A2-A (FERM-P No. 5205) or Micrococcus luteus 12-A2-X (FERM-P No. 5207), are inoculated into a nutrient culture medium containing 2% or more, preferably 2W5%, common salt and cultivated at 25W40°C and pH6W8 under aerobic conditions to produce vitamin B12 in the culture medium. The resultant vitamin B12 is then collected.
