Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the sufficiently high boost pressure necessary for starting the engine, by providing at a part of exhaust pipe a combusting means which is operated only at the time of starting the engine, and affording energy possessed by the exhaust gas of said combusting means to an exhaust turbine.
CONSTITUTION: The combusting means 8 is provided in the exhaust pipe 4 at a part thereof located between a cylinder 1 and the exhaust turbine 7. At the time of starting the engine (particularly, at the time of cold starting of the engine), a main switch 16 is kept ON and a control switch 17 is turned ON manually or automatically through detection of temperature, so that combusting means 8 is set into operation. A blower 11 blows exhaust gas of combusting means 8 into the exhaust pipe 4 for driving the exhaust turbine 7 by the energy possessed by the exhaust gas. Therefore, a sufficiently high boost pressure necessary for starting the engine can be produced by an air compressor 6.
