Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a tool of long life a method wherein the high-speed tool steel is used as an edge material, while the low-alloy tool steel as a core material, and both are joined by the diffusion bonding method.
CONSTITUTION: In a milling tool whose lateral face is not used substantially as a cutting edge, the high-speed tool steel is used for an outer-peripheral cutting edge forming the groove part of the rake face of the cutting edge and the part above, while for the other part of the tool is used the low-alloy tool steel to which the same heat treatment as to the cutting material is applied to give the hardness of HRC 40 or more thereto. For the purpose of joining of the high-speed tool steel used for the above cutting edge to the low-alloy tool steel used for the other part of the tool, powder is employed as a buffer member, on joining surfaces of both steel parts and they are bonded by the diffusion bonding.
