Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve efficiency of the soil water treatment and to facilitate maintenance of the clarifier, by immersing biological filter beds each incorporated with an air chamber, and causing air to be introducing into the air chamber and then to be discharged therefrom repeatedly thereby moving the biological filter bed up and down.
CONSTITUTION: Two units each having the filter bed 5 on the air chamber 9 are provided to an oxidation tank 4. Soil water in the air chamber 9 is replaced with air by aeration through a blower 7 and an air diffusing pipe 6 placed at a bottom of the oxidation tank 4 so that the unit will acquire buoyancy and the filter bed 5 will be exposed to the atmosphere and in contact with air. When an air feed valve 10 is closed and an exhaust valve 11 is opened, the air in the air chamber 9 is exhausted and is replaced with the soil water, and the filter bed loses the buoyancy and is immersed into the soil water. Biological layers over surfaces of the filter bed 5 grown by exposing the filter bed 5 over soil the water surface and by immersing it below the soil water surface can decompose organic dirt constituents to clarify the soil water.
