Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a method for monitoring the erroded condition of a structure easily and economically by detecting the conduction through an electrolyte solution existing between two lead wires which are exposed into a closed formed at the back surface of a monitor member and are not connected directly with each other nor with other solid parts.
CONSTITUTION: A terminal for monitoring comprises a vinyl-covered chord 4 embedded in a resin 3 inside a terminal casing 1, to form a closded space 7. The tip ends of two lead wires 5, 6 of the chord 4 which are exposed into the closed space 7 are so arranged that they do not contact each other nor contact the wall the bottom 2 of the terminal casing 1. Accordingly, when the errosion of the surface 2 proceeds and an electrolyte solution enters into the closed space 7, the lead wires 5, 6 are electrically connected and an electric lamp is turned on so that it is detected that the errosion has proceeded to the thickness corresponding to the wall thickness of the bottom of the terminal casing 1. According to this monitoring method, it is possible to provide a monitoring portion at adequate positions of the structure, to simplify the construction and to reduce the size.
