Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the production of welding defects by using the titled tab obtained by incorporating water glass to refractory material of the specific grain size constitution, molding the mixture to a desired shape and solidifying the molding by a CO2 gas.
CONSTITUTION: Water glass is incorporated at 5W20wt% to refractory material powder prepared by dry compounding in such a manner as to have the grain size constitution of ≤50% of the grains finer than 48 mesh and smaller than 270 mesh. After the mixture is molded to a desired shape, the molding is solidified and dried in a CO2 gas atmosphere. If this end tab is used, the oxidation of the joint end faces of base metals is prevented because the gas generated in the welding arc atmosphere is CO2, thus the production of welding defects such as blowholes may be effectively prevented.
