Abstract

PURPOSE:To set the optimum bias, an equalizer and the recording sensitivity, by recording and reproducing plural frequency signals while giving a staircase-type variation to the bias current and then giving an arithmetic process to the relevant reproduction signal. CONSTITUTION:Both the low- and high-band signals f1 and f2 are recorded on a tape 21 along with the bias having a staircase-type variation from the minimum level to the maximum level via a level controller 7 and a high-band compensating circuit 8. When the tape is recorded up to the maximum bias, the tape is rewound until the record starting point by a rewinding circuit 40 to be set in a reproduction mode. The reproduced signals are stored in a low-pass filter 26, a high-pass filter 23 plus digital memories 25 and 28 via a reproduction equalizer 22. The optimum bias value is detected by a peak detector 30 and the memories 25, 28 and 36 are held respectively. The memory 36 is set at the optimum bias, and the values of the memories 25 and 28 are divided by an operator 29. Then a record compensating circuit and a multiplier decide the record sensitivity over the entire band.
