Abstract

PURPOSE:To unnecessitate a hydraulic pump and a pressure-oil supplying passage annexed to the former by forming pressure oil for the hydraulic lifter by utilizing effectively the shape and function of a cam for opening and closing intake and exhaust valves in the hydraulic lifter for opening and closing the intake and exhaust valves. CONSTITUTION:In the case when the device is applied to an engine for an autobicycle of an overhead cam shaft type, lubricating oil being supplied in a spray through the operation of the engine and sticking on to the surface of the cam 21 and the head part of the main body 31 of the lifter is led, with the rotation of the cam 21, into a wedge-shaped space S formed between the surface of the cam 21 and the head part of the main body 31 of the lifter, owing to the viscosity thereof. Since the wedge-shaped space S forms a tapering flow channel tapering gradually to the opening part of the passage hole 31b of the main body 31 of the lifter, the lubricating oil thus led in causes oil pressure and supplied, as the pressure oil, into an upper oil chamber R1. The pressure oil in the oil chamber R1 is supplied into a lower oil chamber R2 through the intermediary of a check valve 34 in the case when a clearance is caused between a plunger 33 and the intake and exhaust valves 13 and 14.
