Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture a titanium sheet in good conditions at a low cost through a simple process, by introducing the molten metal of titanium into the gap of a couple of cooled copper-made rolls, so as to make the introduced molten metal of titanium continuously solidify, and at the same time, to give a rolling work to this solidifying metal. CONSTITUTION:A melter, comprising a hopper 1 holding the sponge titanium, a feed chute 2, a hearth 3 and the plasma beam torches 4, is installed within a vacuum housing 6; the molten titanium molten by the melter is introduced into the gap of a couple of copper-made rolls 9 being water-cooled. The molten metal is cooled by the rolls 9 and solidifies; hereupon, the solidifying metal, while being kept at high temperatures above the beta transformation point, receives a rolling work from the rotating rolls 9. Thus cast and rolled titanium ingot is sent forward by the pinch rolls 7 and is wound around the winding roll 8.
