Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide tough spheroidal graphite cast iron contg. C, Si, Mn, P, S and a graphite spheroidizine element, further contg. Cu and/or Ni by a percentage within a specified range, and having a fine mixed structure consisting of ferrite and bainite grains and contg. spheroidal graphite crystallized in the matrix.
CONSTITUTION: This spheroidal graphite cast iron contains 3.0W4.0% C, 1.0W 3.5% Si, ≤1% Mn, ≤0.1% P, ≤0.02% S and ≤0.07% Mg or other graphite spheroidizine element and further contains Cu and/or Ni by a percentage within the range bounded by A, B, C, D and E in the figure. In order to obtain the cast iron, the above-mentioned composition is heated to a temp. within the eutectoid transformation temp. zone to form a ferrite-austenite two-phase structure. The cast iron having this two-phase structure is then dipped in a hot bath of 250W370°C and kept to isothermally transform the austenite grains into bainite ones.
