Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the trouble to replace a ribbon by half without providing a large-size device by installing a spring for setting the upper half of a wide ink ribbon in a printing state and shifting the lower half of the ribbon in ''under use'' condition. CONSTITUTION:A cassette 16 is fitted onto a base 17 for a carriage 7 and reels 28, 29 are pressed into a take-up shaft 26, 27. Through this procedure, the cassette 16 is clamped by the curvature 23a of a clamp 23 and a sliding plate 21 and the notch part 15b of a pin 15 are fitted together by descending the pin 15, so that the base 17 is locked at a descending position. As a result of this procedure, the upper half of an ink ribbon 12 having a width more than double the height of a print character can be placed in a position opposite to a thermal head 10 and a platen 11. At that time, a migration trend toward an upward direction by a spring 18 is always provided and at the same time, when a locked condition is cancelled, the lower half of the ribbon 12 is automatically shifted to a printing position.
