Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a direct analysis of molten metal with high precision by automatically correcting an influence of the background through a vidicon, electronic computer, etc., when measuring the intensity of spectral beams by spectral diffraction of plasma corresponding to laser pulse irradiation. CONSTITUTION:When laser pulses generated from laser generator 4 is irradiated, molten steel 2, etc., are excited by plasma and excited light is separated into spectral components by spectrometer 7. Spectral beam images of respective elements of this steel 2 are controlled by controller 17 synchronizing with generator 4 and then processed by optical multichannel analyzers OMA... provided for each spectral beam, and the integral intensity of photodetection is determined in a near wavelength range including the center wavelength by fine wavelength sections. Then, an influence of the background is automatically corrected through the statistical analysis of electronic computer 18 and the analysis result based upon the intensity of the spectral beam that corresponds to the element of steel 2 is displayed on display device 19, so that a direct analysis of the molten metal can be made with high precision.
