Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of bleed-out at the leading end of an ingot and perform efficient casting work by temporarily stopping drawing before he leading end of the ingot leaves the mold and filling molten steel in the mold, at the time of casting.
CONSTITUTION: In casting, a dummy bar head 4a is positioned at the end of the tundish 2 side in a mold 1. When molten steel adheres to the dummy bar head 4a to form the leading end 9 of an ingot, the drawing of the dummy bar 4 is started. In a predetermined position before the ingot leading end 9 is pulled from the open end of the mold 1, a control unit 7 is operated to temporarily stop the drawing. During this stoppage period, new molten steel is lapped in the cavity produced in the drooping portion of the shell in the mold 1, and the molten steel is filled in the mold 1. Thence, a control unit 7 is operated to resume the drawing of the dummy bar 4. These eliminate the occurrence of bleed-out on the exit side of the mold 1 of the ingot.
