Abstract
PURPOSE:To correct an aimed ignition time without errors by identifying whether the rotation frequencies are changed by external factors or changed by modufications of the ignition times at least at different two points. CONSTITUTION:A controlling computer 6 controls the ignition time by obtaining the rotation frequencies of an engine from time intervals of rotational angular signals produced in a rotary sensor 5 and calcurating an intake manifold pressure to detect an operating condition of the engine. The engine is operated for prescribed periods of time alternately near the aimed ignition time and at the ignition times at least at the two points different from each other, and judgement is made based on the operating conditions at the time whether the ignition times are on the lag side or the lead side of the most suitable ignition time and the aimed ignition time is corrected.
