Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I and an acid addition salt thereof.
EXAMPLE: 3',4',6''-Trideoxyamikacin carbonate.
USE: An antimicrobial agent having low toxicity to an organ of hearing.
PROCESS: Four amino groups of 3',4'-dideoxyamikacin expressed by formula II are protected by protecting groups thereof, and three hydroxyl groups at the 2',2'' and 2'''-positions or four hydroxyl groups at the 5, 2',2'''-positions are protected by monovalent protecting groups to give compound of formula III (A is H; B is monovalent protecting group of the amino groups; A and B together form bivalent protecting groups of the amino groups; X and Y are H, alkyl, aryl, etc.; D is acyl group; E is H or acyl groups). The protecting groups at the 4'' and 6''-positions are then removed, and the hydroxyl group at the 6''-position is selectively sulfonated, iodinated and dehalogenated by the catalytic reduction. The remaining protecting groups of the hydroxyl and amino groups are then removed.
