Abstract

PURPOSE:To ease the production, adjustment and handling by fusion-bonding the side faces of two fibers to form an access coupler and packaging the same in a housing of 4 ports provided with optical connectors. CONSTITUTION:The fusion-bonded part 7 of two fibers 1x, 1y is inserted into a half-split sleeve 8 and is fixed and reinforced by silicone resin 9. The fixing resin 9 of a refractive index lower than that of fiber cores is used and the optical fibers with the reinforced fusion-bonded part is contained in a housing 11 which assumes a square shape and is provided with the receptacles 10a thru 10d of optical connectors at each side. The ends of the respective fibers are connected to the respective receptacles and are fixed by silicone resin 12. Thereby, the device of easy production, adjustment and handling, small size, lightness in weight and superior vibration resistance may be obtained.
