Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve higher capacity and higher speed of radom selection operation by employing a steady light source, using a large size rotary drum for film container and segmenting this drum by operating functions.
CONSTITUTION: Direction selecting mirrors 7a thru 9i which are turned and pivotally moved intermittently by a servo motor 3 are so disposed above the axial line of a film containing drum 1 as to form images on an image pickup tube 13. A plurality of rectangular prisms 8a thru 8i are disposed on the plane on the optical axes of the direction selecting mirrors 8a thru 8i and perpendicular to the rotating axis of the drum. The film frame selecting mechanisms are provided in correspondence to the number of these prisms 8a thru 8i. All the images from each of these film selecting mechanisms are formed as the formal images through the rectangular prisms and direction selecting mirrors on the image pickup tube 13. Thereby, the retrieval operation may be made higher in speed, image quality improved and capacity increased.
